Twin-screw extrusion has been used for more than 70 years and is a key process for manufacturing advanced products in a wide array of applications such as engineering plastics, drug products, medical devices and agro-food products. Focusing on this complex process is important for improving productivity and product quality. This seminar provides comprehensive information about extrusion process, specifically twin-screw extrusion, and covers both underlying engineering principles as well as their applications in compounding and production. Classroom lectures cover the basic principles of twin-screw extrusion process and provide attendees with the fundamental principles for computer-aided simulation. In addition, a laboratory session will provide machine operation and practical extrusion techniques. The data taken during the laboratory session will be used for the validation during the CAE simulation. Attending this course will allow you to: 1) attain a global understanding of twin-screw extrusion, 2) get fully trained on the twin-screw extrusion software LudovicĀ® software, and 3) solve industrial issues, such as scale-up, product formulation and process optimization.



Classroom Lecture
Attendees will learn twin-screw extrusion and mechanical principles of extrusion from academic and industrial perspectives.

Hands-on Laboratory
Attendees will use a twin-screw extruder and prepare screw profiles. Attendees will collect the experimental data to be used for validation of simulation on Day 2.
