UMass Lowell has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Research by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

UMass Lowell, a leader in information technology and criminal justice education, is pleased to host a Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop in collaboration with Advoqt and SSJM Attorneys at Law. The workshop is targeted at small and midsize businesses, which are among the most susceptible when it comes to targeted cyberattacks.

UMass Lowell — Designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Research by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security
  • Cybersecurity expert Larry Wilson will provide an overview of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and how it guides organizations in protecting and defending their assets.
Advoqt — A leading technology group with expertise in data science and cybersecurity
  • Technology entrepreneur Reinier Moquete from Advoqt will guide workshop attendees through strategies aimed at recognizing and mitigating cyber risk.
Sheehan, Schiavoni, Jutras and Magliocchetti, LLP (SSJM) Attorneys at Law — Specialists in cybersecurity legal compliance and consulting
  • Retired FBI Special Agent Bill Chase from SSJM will provide an overview of federal and state statutes on cybersecurity compliance, and will also detail penalties for noncompliance.

Workshop attendees will gain the knowledge they need to initiate an effective cybersecurity plan and obtain workforce training that will secure their businesses. The workshop will be followed by a networking reception.

Larry Wilson

Larry Wilson is the former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in the University of Massachusetts President's Office, where he was responsible for developing, implementing and managing the University of Massachusetts Information Security Policy and Written Information Security Program (WISP). The University's program is based on a "NCSF Controls FactoryTM" approach that Larry created to help organizations operationalize the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and industry best practices (ISO 27001, SANS 20 Critical Controls, etc.) across an enterprise and its supply chain. Former Special Agent in Charge specializing in Cybersecurity and Counterterrorism at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bill brings a rare mix of experience from the highest levels of the FBI and from his role as a management consultant to several large government contractors involving data protection and cybersecurity. Reinier Moquete

Reinier is CEO for Advoqt, which delivers integrated systems with a focus on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. He is also the founder of several educational and workforce development programs, including CyberWarrior (cybersecurity training), Diversity IT Network (career development for multicultural IT professionals), and Latino STEM Alliance (teaches robotics to K-12 children in underserved communities). Directions and Parking

Take I-495 to Exit 49 and follow Rt 110/113 East for 2.4 miles. Harbor Place will be on your right at the corner of Merrimack and Main Streets, next to Basiliere Bridge. Public parking is available in the municipal metered parking lot directly across the street from Harbor Place. The lower-level of this metered parking facility can be accessed from Merrimack Street; the upper-level can be accessed from Main Street. Parking is 50 cents per hour Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Outside of these hours and on Saturdays and Sundays parking is free.

Access to UMass Lowell Harbor Place is through the main entrance at 2 Merrimack St.
