Trainin' o' the Garda

Ireland's 12,000-strong National Police Service, An Garda Siochana, will soon grow by 2,000 new recruits. To facilitate training of the rookies, the force has turned to UMassOnline to help organize and deliver training services via e-learning. The university will address best practices for efficient and cost-effective online training and supporting HR administrative functions through technology, as well as demo the online criminal justice programs offered online by UMass-Lowell.

Representatives of the Garda, UMass and the Massachusetts State Police got together last week to get the ball rolling. Jacqueline Moloney, far right, dean of Corporate and Continuing Education at UMass-Lowell, demos UMass-Lowell's online Master's in criminal justice courses for, from far left Sgt. Shay McCormack of the Garda; Sgt. Dale Kiley of the Massachusetts State Police; superintendent Clare O'Sullivan of the Garda; and chief superintendent Kieran McGann of the Garda.
