Mechanical Engineering Technology

 

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program prepares graduates with the problem solving skills, communications expertise and knowledge of practical applications demanded by the complex world of modern business and industry.
 

Associate’s Degree graduates possess the skills necessary to specify, install, test, operate, maintain and document mechanical systems. Bachelor’s Degree graduates are prepared to apply in-depth concepts to the analysis, development, implementation and oversight of mechanical systems and processes.

 

Graduates leave the program well versed in applied mechanics; applied thermal sciences; applied fluid mechanics; fundamentals of electrical, electronic and digital basics; materials science; and the mathematics, physics and chemistry necessary to support those areas of concentration.

 

A concentration in Manufacturing prepares graduates in the areas of basic manufacturing, manufacturing processes, productivity, industrial economics and quality. The industry offers graduates of the program a broad spectrum of opportunities in such areas as design, development, manufacturing support and quality. It’s one of the many reasons why the Mechanical Engineering Technology program is so popular among students at UMass Lowell.

 

The educational objectives of the UML MET program are to have students who will achieve the following in their professional career after graduation:  

  1. To effectively use critical thinking and problem solving skills, scientific and engineering knowledge and methods for application in industry;
  2. To be established and recognized as a valued professionals and effective communicators in industries related to mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering technologies;
  3. To practice professionally in a collaborative, team-oriented manner that embraces the multidisciplinary and multicultural environment of today’s business world;
  4. To engage in lifelong learning and professional development via post graduate education and participation in professional organizations;
  5. To function as a responsible members of society with willingness to mentor fellow employees and an understanding of the ethical, social and economic impact of their work in a global context.
