"I wanted to make a career change and do something I was
passionate about, which for me is the environment. So when I decided
to go back to school, I
looked at several universities and even went so far as to interview
faculty to make sure I
selected the right one. What I discovered along the way is that UMass
Lowell is among a select
group of universities with a prestigious engineering program. That
really reinforced my decision
to attend UMass Lowell."
Andrea Lindsey, Student
Bridges, buildings, wastewater treatment plants, highways – none of society's critical infrastructure would be possible without Civil Engineering Technologies. Students in the Civil Engineering Technology program gain a solid background in structural engineering, material properties, soils, infrastructure and environmental factors – all necessary components to designing, building and maintaining the critical infrastructure supporting the world in which we live.
The Civil Engineering Technology
program
provides students with both technical insight and hands-on
experience. Students not only become familiar with the intricacies
of load-bearing support, reinforced concrete and continuous spans,
but they also gain an understanding of traffic characteristics,
water and wastewater treatment, highway design and the legal issues
involved in resource development.
The program prepares students for assignments in
such industries as transportation, public infrastructure, local
utilities, environmental protection, housing development, commercial
construction and more. Graduates of the program may find themselves
in roles within municipal public works departments or working for
construction companies, building highways and bridges in the U.S.
and abroad, further supporting the growth of our global economy.
The educational objectives of the UML CET program are to have students who will achieve the following in their professional career after graduation:
- Effectively use critical thinking and problem
solving, scientific knowledge and civil engineering skills and
methods for specific application in Structural, Environmental or
Transportation careers;
- To be established and recognized as a valued
professionals and effective communicators in industries
related to civil engineering and civil engineering
technology; To be established and recognized as a valued
