OVERVIEW
This course provides general and advanced information on the new and rapidly
advancing area of TPEs. Basic properties and processing of elastomeric materials
will be discussed. Specific properties of TPEs, modification of existing TPEs
and future research on TPEs are some of the advanced topics that will be
covered.

Introduction-
Rubber elasticity; flexible plastics; polymer fundamentals; thermoset vs.
thermoplastic elastomers
Characteristics of Elastomers
Materials- Styrenics, polyurethanes, polyesters, olefinics, polyamides, PVC's, blends; LIM
systems; new TPE materials; advantages and disadvantages; modification of
elastomers; present-day research
Compounding - Creating dynamic vulcanizates
- Modification of current TPEs
Processing-
Injection, compression, and blow molding; extrusion; compounding
