Master's Degree in Health Management & Policy: Health Informatics Concentration

Students may wish to concentrate their graduate degree on the effect that massive amounts of data has on public health policy and health care delivery. Coursework in this concentration emphasizes information management and the ways in which health and computer sciences are coupled with information resources and integrated into the management of health care data for clinical, financial or analytical purposes.

Admission Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution;
• Official transcript from the baccalaureate institution;
• Three letters of recommendation pertaining to academic ability and professional performance;
• A page-length Statement of Purpose indicating career plans, interests and objectives in pursuing a graduate degree;
• Acceptable scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).;If a student completes the Health Management, Health Informatics, or Health Policy Certificate program with a grade point average of 3.5 or better, GRE scores are not required.
• Citizens of  non-English speaking countries who have never earned an academic degree in the United States must submit TOEFL scores. (Minimum 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based, or 100 Internet-based).
• A professional resume indicating two or more years of full-time, professional (e.g., management, clinical or informatics) work experience; and
• A personal interview (either in-person or via phone).

Although a background in health is not required for admission to the Program, applicants with significant health-related work experience are given preference when program capacity is limited.  For applicants without health-related work or educational experience, one's academic and professional history is important.

Applications can be submitted and evaluated at any time.  Nevertheless, we recommend that applicants seeking admission for the Fall semester have applications complete by May 15, and that applicants seeking admission for the Spring semester have applications complete by December 15. All application materials must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
