Overview
This one-day, hands-on seminar covers the fundamentals of project planning and focuses on the initiation and planning phases of a project. It provides an overview of project management software and an introduction to Microsoft® Project - the industry's leading project management software. A combination of lecture and class exercises is used to better convey the course material. It also covers the fundamentals of CPM (Critical Path Method) scheduling to give users a solid foundation for scheduling work using a project management software application such as Microsoft® Project.

Who Should Attend
All members of a project team who would like an introduction or a refresher course on project planning fundamentals, as well as those who have time constraints and cannot commit to a multi-day training class.

Content
Teach students how to initiate and plan projects by:

  • Becoming familiar with the PMBOK process
  • Understanding the roles and responsibility of the Project Sponsor, Project Manager and Team Member
  • Learning the phases and steps that each project must goes through
  • Learning how develop effective Work Breakdown Structures
  • Producing project schedules using the 4 types of task relationships
  • Understanding Critical Path and how its calculated and displayed
  • Compress and optimize schedules

Instructor
John Riopel is the president of PM Providers and has over 21 years of experience as a program/project manager in government service and commercial industries implementing and managing internal, civil, commercial, and government projects. He has provided program/project management expertise to the US Navy, Army, Federal/Civil, banking, telecommunications, retailing, entertainment industries and other commercial clients. He uses the Project Management Institute (PMI) disciplined approach to program/project management and has led virtual teams along with onsite resources. John is an expert in database and web technologies and has often presented seminars on project management tools for Microsoft’s Project Association (MPA). He is a Microsoft Certified Professional.
